![]() The group's timing was as perfect as the song - there had been a soul boom in England since late 1965, and the subsequent Motown and Stax/Volt tours by American R&B stars only heightened the public's interest. 'Baby Now That I've Found You' was the immediate beneficiary, along with the group - by November, the single held the number one spot on the British charts. The station wanted to avoid any records being played by the pirate radio broadcasters, and looked back at recent releases that the pirates had missed. ![]() The resulting single, issued in the summer of 1967, got no reaction from the public or on the airwaves until it got picked up by the BBC's newly founded Radio 1, by a stroke of pure luck. Lead singer Clem Curtis was a former boxer from Trinidad, while lead guitarist Alan Warner had been making his living in the printing trade in London while waiting for music to pay off. The Foundations were formed in January 1967 in the basement of a local coffee bar in Bayswater, gathered together through advertisements in Melody Maker. 'Baby Now That I've Found You,' 'Build Me Up Buttercup,' and 'In the Bad, Bad Old Days' were the biggest hits for this multi-racial octet, made up of Londoners and West Indians. At the time of their debut in mid-1967, they were hailed as being among the most authentic makers of soul music ever to emerge from England - the best practitioners of the Motown sound to be found on the far side of the Atlantic - and were also accepted in jazz circles as well. It’s not too thick and also works great when layering over a lipstick. The Foundations were a surprisingly obscure late-'60s outfit, considering that they managed to reach the tops of the both the British and American charts more than once in the space of a year and had a solid three years of recordings. This adds a slight pink tint with a hint of shine. GLOSS :: Finally for my lips, I reach for any pinkish gloss such as NARS Turkish Delight. I apply it in a sweeping motion on the area above my cheeks for a healthy sun kissed glow. It’s very easy to blend and applies like velvet. My cheeks get just a touch of pink- enough to notice but subtle enough that it still looks natural- love it!īRONZER :: To look a bit more radiant I use a bronzer, and my current favorite product to use is MAC Gold Deposit Mineralize Skinfinish. It’s super pigmented so I apply it with a light hand. This product adds length and volume to make my eyes pop, but doesn’t get clumpy.īLUSH :: To add some color to my cheeks I use NARS Angelika blush. I have warm undertones and this blush goes perfectly with my skin. MASCARA :: To define and thicken my lashes I use a mascara like MAC Zoom Fast Black Lash. SOFT BROWN EYE SHADOW :: When I’m going for a natural face, I apply a bit of shadow a shade or two darker than my skin tone like MAC Saddle all over my lid for a barely-there hint of color. It stays put all day and I can usually find it for less than $1- win win. If my face starts to shine throughout the day, it is easy to reapply without looking caked up.ĮYELINER :: I use an eyeliner pencil to fill in my sparse brows and the NYC pencil in dark brown not only does the trick, but it’s also super inexpensive. I use it to set my concealer and for an overall light dusting and it gives such a smooth flawless look. POWDER :: Shine be gone! I’ve been using this setting powder for a few years now, and it is the perfect finish to my makeup. I sometimes also use it as a highlighter on the bridge of my nose and forehead. I like that it’s light weight, but you can definitely build it up for fuller coverage.ĬONCEALER :: I use a bit of concealer on my under eye area to cover dark circles and 9 times out of 10 I reach for my MAC Studio Finish Concealer. It’s long wearing and provides the ideal amount of coverage to brighten under the eyes, conceal blemishes, etc without being too heavy. It goes on smoothly, lasts all day, and has a nice luminous matte finish. I’ve been using Clinique’s Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion for about a year now and I love how it leaves my skin super hydrated and supple.įOUNDATION :: To even out my skin tone I apply a bit of foundation, and my holy-grail of the moment is Chanel Perfection Lumiere. MOISTURIZER :: I always like to start off with a well moisturized face. ![]() Of course, when I feel like being fancy I may do an actual eyeshadow look or apply falsies etc, but these are the 10 makeup items that I ALWAYS have on hand!
